Wineries and Guided Tours Near Taylorsville Lake
Kentucky is known for its Bourbon trail, but don’t overlook the Wineries while staying near Taylorsville Lake. Below are our favorite wineries listed by drive time in respect to Edgewater Resort. Some of the wineries may seem far, but in the country, everything is a “Drive”. Make sure to enjoy the view of the rolling Kentucky landscape, horse farms, and old town living.
On route to the wineries, keep your eyes on the barns; do you see any painted black? Traditionally barns in Kentucky were painted black to absorb the sun’s rays and raise the heat inside. The heat would aid in the curing of tobacco. As an added bonus, the creosote used in blackening the barns would repel termites. Over time, the black barns turned into a fashion statement in Kentucky.

It was also the year of George Washington's first term as President of the United States. The house, though rehabilitated when it was purchased in 1998, still shows most of its original structure. Guests can see the original floors, windows, walls, brick and more while browsing the gift shop and tasting Kentucky's finest wines. The farm was originally a cattle and tobacco farm until its purchase. Talon's well-known "Ca"Barn"et Barrel Barn was converted from a working tobacco barn to an elegant and classy wedding and event venue that hosts over 80 weddings and events throughout the year.
Broad Run Vineyard and Winery
Broad Run Vineyards has followed the classic journey of Old-World family wineries. We have planted the noble vinifera vines of Europe, toiled in the vineyards and given precedence to the nurturing of high-quality grapes that yield well balanced, fine wines in our estate winery. Our journey began as an experiment in 1983 when we planted 20 varieties on our 15-acre homesite to find out what would grow well in Kentucky. We went commercial in 1992, the first vintage was released in 1994. Realizing the need to expand the vineyard, we purchased a 72-acre farm across beautiful Broad Run Creek and planted 25 more acres of vines. In 2003 we began construction of our new 8000 square foot winery and tasting room.

Lovers Leap Vineyards & Winery
Lovers Leap Vineyards and Winery is a family owned, fully operational, 60 acre farm containing 30 acres of vineyards. Owned by the Sivinski family, and located in the heart of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, the Vineyard sits atop a limestone base providing vital minerals and nutrients to the soil which are similar to those found in the Bordeaux region of France, where some of the world's finest wines are made. There are four red varietals and four whites, all of which give us the ability to create interesting combinations or "blends" that effectively express the terroir and climate of Central Kentucky as well as our winemaking style. A good portion of the vines were planted in 1994 and are in the prime of life therefore, producing fruit with robust and concentrated character. This premium quality fruit coming from the vineyard is a winemaker's dream, as there is a level of excellence already established at each harvest. The vineyard is painstakingly nurtured and maintained by hand all season long to ensure the vitality of the vines.
